First Vulcan to enlist in Starfleet. A fourth-year cadet, assigned in 2252 as junior science officer aboard U.S.S. Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike. Served under Pike for two five-year missions and one refit phase, a total of 11 years, 4 months. Promoted to lieutenant in 2254; lieutenant commander in 2260.
In 2264, remained aboard Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk. Promoted in 2267 to rank of commander. Served with distinction as science officer and first officer. Court-martialed in 2267 for falsifying orders and attempting to violate General Order 7 by returning the severly injured Captain Pike to Talos IV. All charges later dropped due to mitigating factors.
In 2270, retired from Starfleet; returned to Vulcan to study Kolinahr discipline. In 2271, re-entered Starfleet to serve during V'Ger Crisis; served with Captain Kirk aboard Enterprise during Kirk's second five-year mission of exploration, 2271-76.
In 2276, promoted to captain of U.S.S. Enterprise when it was redesignated a training vessel at Starfleet Academy. Served as senior faculty instructor at the Academy, 2276-85. Sponsored Vulcan cadet Saavik to Starfleet Academy, 2281. Relinquished command of cadet-filled U.S.S. Enterprise to Kirk for rescue of Project Genesis team, 2285. During the mission, Spock sacrificed himself while making repairs that allowed Enterprise to escape from the detonation of the Genesis Device by Khan Noonien Singh. SpockΓÇÖs body was regenerated when, after space-burial, it landed on Genesis Planet. Because Spock had placed his "katra" or spirit, in the body of Dr. Leonard McCoy prior to his death, body and soul were successfully re-integrated on Vulcan later that year, resulting in his resurrection.
Though uncharged, returned to Earth in 2286 with Captain Kirk and shipmates to face disciplinary action for theft and destruction of Enterprise. Shipmates cleared of all charges by Federation Council, and all Enterprise senior officers restored to active duty. In 2287, accompanied Kirk aboard Enterprise NCC-1701-A for Nimbus III mission.
In 2293, served as Federation special envoy to the Klingon government, paving the way for the Khitomer peace accords with Chancellor Azetbur. Retired for final time from Starfleet in 2293, joined Federation Diplomatic Corps. As a civilian ambassador, traveled secretly to Romulus in 2368 on personal mission to further Romulan/Vulcan reunification. Remains on Romulus to work with Romulan underground; helped arrange in 2369 the defection of Romulan Vice-Proconsul M'Ret to the Federation, and pioneered an escape route for dissidents.
